SUMMER CAMP FOR BROKEN PEOPLE

9th - 20th May

The Pleasance London

Summer Camp For Broken People is a dark comedy about rape, losing your mind and finding yourself.

After a violent sexual assault, a 40-something single mum thinks she’s ‘fine’ until an invitation to a Christmas party sends her spiralling. Summer Camp for Broken People written and performed by Emily Beecher is a deeply personal show about sexual violence, motherhood, mental health and, ultimately, love.

This autobiographical, one-woman show, based on writings while Emily was at a psychiatric hospital, shines a light into the darkest of places. It's a bold, brave and empowering show about how mental illness infects our lives, our capacity for pain and what it takes to put a shattered spirit back together.

What People Are Saying

“Emily has a gift for seeing into the heart of story structure.”

- Jennifer Maher, Literary Creative Executive, Los Angeles

⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This production comes as a refreshing change from the glitzy, and often unachievable, stories that musical theatre thrusts at us…an expertly crafted show that asks for support rather than castigating the rest of the world for its actively judgmental stance.”

– West End Wilma

“Heartwarming, funny and deeply honest in a way that no mother could fail to appreciate, The Good Enough Mums Club captures the frustration, isolation and occasional joy of early motherhood in a frank and totally relatable story.”

- Charlotte Philby, The Independent
